Liverpool have broken their transfer record this year to sign Mo Salah from Roma (that's a spoiler alert for this quiz) but he will have to wait to make his debut for the club.
Liverpool kick-off their pre-season schedule with a trip to Tranmere Rovers tomorrow evening, but Salah will be unavailable for selection, owing to immigration laws in England.
He hasn't been granted a work permit, and to earn it, he must leave the UK briefly and then return. It's a standard immigration procedure, and Liverpool's Marko Grujic went through a similar process when he signed for Liverpool a year ago.
Jurgen Klopp addressed the issue with Liverpoolfc.com:
Mo Salah is here in training but cannot play because of the rules, so that’s what we have to accept. We will try to get the working permission or the visa, I’m not sure what it is we need to get but we have to go to Paris and leave him there for a day or two and then he’ll come back.
We are hopeful he can play soon.
If he is still unavailable for Friday's game with Wigan, Salah will make his debut at the Asia Trophy.
Elsewhere, Jordan Henderson will return from a long-standing foot injury against Tranmere at Prenton Park.
