In an era when how your hair is shorn seems more important than how much your club fines you, it seems we have unlikely heroes in the shape of the AFL.
Nathan van Someren is a fella who decided that the Mohawk was for him, for he wasn't notable enough without it, that somehow a ridiculous chicken-like formation on his noggin would improve his fortunes. How wrong Mr Van Someren was. The purpley/yellow combination led to his dismissal in a recent pre season friendly as it was too dangerous and could take someone's eye out, and as we know it's always fun and games until someone takes an eye out with a mohawk.

]"Before the game the umpire said that I could not play with my hair like that. He told me it was dangerous," he said.
"We all thought that he was taking the mickey out of me. A few umpires have made jokes about my hair before, so I didn't think any more of it."
When Van Someren was substituted on, however, it emerged that the umpire had been deadly serious.
"I was just standing there and he came across to me and goes, 'I thought I told you you couldn't come on the ground'," Van Someren added.
"I sort of just looked at him like 'what?' and he's like, 'no, I told you you couldn't come on the ground with that hairstyle, you have to go off'."
