Association football might never be more than a minority sport in the US but it was encouraging to see the MLS record its second highest attendance of all time on Sunday night as 67,385 fans turned up to watch the Seattle Sounders take on the Portland Timbers, Clint Dempsey's first game for the Sounders. The highest attendance for a game remains LA Galaxy vs MetroStars in 1996, which attracted 69,255 people.
Before the game, there was an impressive tifo display by the Sounders.
The match was decided by this Eddie Johson header as the Sounders won 1-0.
