Apart from maybe football manager/gravedigger Avram Grant, Mick McCarthy is among the most phlegmatic men in football. That said, he has a sense of humour as dry as the Sahara desert, and that fabulous wit was on show in the aftermath of Ipswich Town's 0-0 draw with high-flying Middlesbrough in the Championship. Ipswich battled to a goalless draw at the Riverside to arrest the momentum of Aitor Karanka's side, and McCarthy had an evocative description for his side's performance:
'Belligerent bunch of fuckers' sounds exactly like how McCarthy would want his side playing. The draw leaves Ipswich in eighth position, eight points outside the play-off places. 'Boro dropping points means the top of the Championship table is extremely tight, with Burnley, 'Boro and Brighton all tied on 87 points.
