When Luke Chambers headed Ipswich into an 89th minute lead in the East Anglia derby against Norwich, Mick McCarthy leapt from the bench with the rest of his staff and players.
McCarthy must have thought, like everyone else at Carrow Road, that Chambers had claimed the three points for Norwich.
As his colleagues headed in one direction to celebrate, McCarthy took his own road. The Ipswich boss released some anger that clearly been pent-up, appearing to aim some expletives at the crowd. Post-match, McCarthy was asked about his celebration.
This was his exchange with a journalist as reported by Stuart Watson of the East Anglian Daily Times.
Journo: Was your celebration aimed at your fans?
McCarthy: No. It was a reaction to the game.
Journo: It looked like you told your own fans to f**k off.
MM: Oh, so you are putting words in my mouth are you? No, it was just me celebrating the game mate.
Ipswich's lead did not endure. Just seven seconds from the end of injury time, Tim Klose rose to head an equaliser for Norwich.
