After a stunning start to his tenure at the club, Cardiff City's form has tailed off somewhat under Mick McCarthy in recent weeks. They have won only one of their last nine Championship fixtures, slipping out of play-off contention as a result.

Their season now looks likely to peter out, although McCarthy will be looking ahead to making a real promotion push next season.

They could have to enter the next campaign without a couple of key players. Both Harry Wilson and Sheyi Ojo have played major roles under the former Ireland boss, but the pair are only in Wales on a season long loan from Liverpool.

When questioned by Wales Online, McCarthy said that it is unlikely that the pair will be at Cardiff next season, also criticising Liverpool for continually loaning the players out and not allowing them to settle at a club.

I don't think that will be the case. Both Harry (Wilson) and Sheyi (Ojo) have got a year left and a year's option apparently.

Harry has been at about four clubs and he wants a home somewhere, he wants to play permanently somewhere, and so does Sheyi.

Loaning them out next year they'd be in the last year of their contract. Liverpool are going to have to sort themselves out - that's nothing to do with us.

Would I have them back? Yeah, of course, they're really good players. But I don't think it will happen.

Wilson has spent time on loan at Crewe Alexandra, Hull City, Derby County, Bournemouth, and Cardiff in recent times, while Ojo has been sent out on loan even more often than his teammate.

Neither player is likely to have a long-term future at Liverpool, but you'd imagine McCarthy would gladly take them at Cardiff.
