Mick McCarthy loves signing up Irish players. If there's an Irishman of Championship standard going for cheap, chances are, Mick'll have him over in East Anglia before you can say 'don't you dare play that feckin Careless Whisper video again'.
We'll quickly skip over the fact that he let both Stephen and Noel Hunt leave Portman Road already this summer but at least he's attempting to replenish the his minimum Irishman quota by snapping up Jonathan Douglas from Championship rivals Brentford.
Despite being a key member of Brenford's promotion push last season, the Monaghan man was judged surplus to requirements by new boss Marinus Dijkhuizen and he's currently undergoing a medical at Ipswich ahead of a free transfer.
If/when the deal does go ahead, Douglas will join fellow Irish internationals Daryl Murphy and David McGoldrick at Portman Road.
