As he waits for his way back into football management, many suspect Mick McCarthy's stock will only rise as Ipswich Town demonstrate how much they are now missing his presence at Portman Road.
Over a five-and-a-half year spell with the Championship club, McCarthy, with little or no money to play around with, steadied the club after the turbulent managerial spells of Paul Jewell and Roy Keane.
Safely guiding them to a 12th placed finish last season, a certain section of Ipswich Town fans appeared to tire of McCarthy's steady hand at the wheel.
Determined that the club could improve, and potentially look toward promotion to the Premier League, McCarthy was all but ushered out the door in the hope of attracting an exciting new replacement.
Well, after 7 games of the 2018/19 season, Ipswich are win-less, with 3 points on the board, sitting at the foot of the Championship table. Needless to say, some suspect McCarthy is looking on with some muted delight.
Impressive win for Norwich City today... Ipswich Town fans were warned getting rid of Mick McCarthy to be careful what they wished for...

Mick McCarthy must be pissing himself laughing at the sight of Ipswich at the bottom of the Championship with three points from seven games.

Having seen how bad Ipswich were today if you’d barracked for Mick McCarthy out before how would you be feeling now?

It has only taken seven games of the new season to realise just how impressive a job Mick McCarthy was doing at Ipswich Town FC, and on a shoestring budget I might add. Wonder are they regretting it yet? #EFL #MickMcCarthy

A disastrous start to the new season for the Tractor Boys, today's game away to Hull City finished 2-0 in favour of the hosts.
During the tumultuous end to his spell at Portman Road, McCarthy memorably became fed up with the unnecessary pressure he was coming under, and, despite the feeling that he would remain at the club until the very end of the 2017/18 season, the former Republic of Ireland boss took early leave.
Most recently seen on our screens during the UEFA Nations League coverage, McCarthy did insist that he was not finished with management, and would consider a realistic offer.
