Mick McCarthy Goes Full Mick, Tells Daryl Murphy To 'Leave Your Sister At Home'

The last we were hearing from Mick McCarthy, he was confident that Daryl Murphy could end his goal drought and start banging them in in no time. That was last week and sure enough, this weekend saw Murphy fire home a hat-trick against Rotherham to finally get off the mark for the season.

With Ireland heading for Bosnia this week, it's pretty good timing from Murphy and McCarthy was understandably delighted that his striker has found the goalscoring touch once more. So delighted in fact that, during an interview with BBC Radio Suffolk, McCarthy decided to have a bit of fun with Murphy by bringing his sister into things.

I said 'welcome back Murph, we don't want to see your sister again who's been playing in recent weeks. You can get away with that when he's scored a hat-trick - 'leave your sister at home and you score regularly'.

We're not entirely sure if Murphy has a sister but either way it's a bit harsh. It may not be up there with Mick's classiest one liners but Murphy has more important things to be thinking about this week. He's set to join up with the Irish squad in Dublin today ahead of Friday's play-off with Bosnia.

With Jon Walters suspended and Shane Long's fitness looking very doubtful, it's quite likely that we could be pinning our goalscoring hopes on Murphy broad shoulders this weekend.
