Generally Championship sides only loan out players in a few situations.
The young lad who requires first team experience, the expensive signing on high wages who was acquired while you were still in the Premier League or maybe a more seasoned player who is getting back from an injury.
Someone who you do not loan out is the Championship's top scorer from the previous season. A player who shot you into the playoff places.
However, that is the offer which Mick McCarthy inexplicably received for Daryl Murphy.
McCarthy told the Irish Sun about an overture from an unnamed club.
Interest in Daryl, there has been loads, I even had one club ringing up asking if they could loan him.
That one was outstanding. It was somewhat ridiculous, maybe they were winding me up, I don’t think they were.
I was asked and he said, ‘You can have a one-word answer’ which kind of stole my thunder because he knew what I’d have told him if he gave me a two-word answer.
So I had to think of something else, something witty.
Presumably those two words from Mick would have been along the lines of the two words ending this typically Mick McCarthy line from last year.
