Mick McCarthy has during his illustrious managerial career come out with a few great lines. He once described Chris Coleman's task at Sunderland “like trying to turn around an oil tanker with a canoe paddle.” and started his tenure at Wolves by telling reporters that his initials stand for "Mick McCarthy, not Merlin the Magician."
The former Ireland manager has been snaffled up by Virgin Media Sport and as part of their bid to promote the rebrand of TV3 to Virgin Media McCarthy sat down with the broadcaster to ask a few quickfire questions.
The 59-year-old was asked what his favourite expression to use is, and the former Ipswich Town boss gave an intriguing answer:
One of them is when I'm working is 'if you're inside my tent you're peeing out and if you're outside you're peeing in', so it lets them know where you are'.
This writer sincerely doubts that McCarthy ever uses the word 'peeing' bar when there are cameras are rolling.
The meaning of the bon mot seems lost the way McCarthy articulates it, but he appears to be quoting the famous Lyndon Johnson quip, who said about J. Edgar Hoover that "It’s probably better to have him inside the tent pissing out, than outside the tent pissing in."
