It's safe to say that former Liverpool and Manchester United striker Michael Owen isn't everybody's cup of tea when it comes to punditry, but the knives are well and truly out for him on social media after he made an embarrassing mixup after Thursday night's quarter-final action.
Manchester United stuttered past Rostov with a 2-1 aggregate win, and as Owen was beginning to discuss United's prospects in the last eight, he wanted to point out how difficult the competition can get in the latter stages, using Liverpool as an example with the sides they faced last year.
Unfortunately for Michael, he seems to have erased Sevilla's 3-1 comeback win from his memory as he spoke of Liverpool "winning it" last season.

Oh dear.
It's been a tough few weeks for Owen, who was ridiculed for having been caught wildly celebrating Barcelona's spectacular comeback win against PSG, having been a Real Madrid player.
He did not receive much sympathy online for his latest mishap...
@themichaelowen you never seem to amaze me ? Liverpool won the Europa League last year! What a Mellon

Why do BT still pay Michael Owen actual money to say things though?

How can these pundits be paid to talk about football just because they played the game? Michael Owen said Liverpool won the Europa last year
