Michael Owen Finally Loses The Rag Over All Those Horrendous Quotes

Taking the piss out of Michael Owen's commentary has become such a cliché that it now nullifies the original point of taking the piss out of Michael Owen's horrendous reliance on clichés. We get it, the man is boring and he doesn't really have a whole lot to contribute.

Nevertheless, he's an easy target so whenever he's on co-commentary duty for a high profile game, it's almost inevitable that the old stick will be taken out again to give his particular brand of vanilla analysis a good old beating. This time around, it was Man City vs Leicester and Owen was given the usual treatment on social media with the following quote quickly doing the rounds.

If the game finished now, Leicester would win. Leicester have scored their first goal, which means they are 1-0 up. If it stays like this, they would win.

The Daily Star picked that up and ran with it, although it must be said they certainly aren't the only ones to have done that and it seems the former Liverpool and Man United had finally had enough. Cue Michael Owen getting angry. What it means for Michael Owen to get angry is, of course, relative.

That's more like it.

A lot of the criticism of Owen stems from the belief that he's never really cared about football. Rightly or wrongly, he comes across as a chap who fell into football because it was convenient even though he'd prefer to be a golf pro at some middle of the road club in Surrey.

That's not true of course, but it's the image he has and it's unlikely he'll be able to get rid of it. Getting pissed off with 'experts' on twitter can only help however and we'll look forward to more of this in the coming months.
