Michael Obafemi is on absolute tear at the moment.
After a fairly slow start to the season as he adjusted to life in the Championship, the striker has been in remarkable form over the last few weeks. He had registered four goals and an assist in his last eight games prior to last night's visit to Peterborough.
He would add to that tally in the game, netting a brace as Swansea City ran out 3-2 winners.
You can see the goals at 1:06 and 2:55 in the video below, with the first a particularly well taken effort.
Speaking to the club website after the game, Obafemi said he felt his season was only getting started.
It’s good to add to the tally, I feel I am warming up, that’s how my friends would describe it.
I am just glad to be scoring goals and contributing, but I don’t want to just stop and think this is it, I want to keep going and get a few more.
My job is to score goals, that’s what strikers are paid for. I’ve got my targets in my mind of what I want to do.
I think double figures has to be the first aim, I hope I can get there quickly and keep going from there.
This is the first time in Obafemi's career that he has been given a sustained run in the starting XI at first team level. His time at Southampton was plagued by injuries and a lack of opportunity, something that stalled his development after a very promising start at the club.
Michael Obafemi in fine form ahead of international window
However, things look very much back on track at Swansea. It is easy to forget that the forward is still only 21-years old.
Manager Russel Martin summed up just how far the player has come over the last few months.
Michael has really paid attention to what we want from him, he is really contributing. He has got himself into great condition.
He looks really sharp and clinical, which is just great for us. It has taken him a bit of time, if we had this Michael a little earlier maybe things would look a little bit different.
But the important thing is we are seeing it now, we are seeing him play at a level we have always known he is capable of and he has always known he is capable of.
I think he really feels part of something here, and the supporters have been great with him. They make these guys feel so welcome and such a big part of the club.
There have been calls for Michael Obafemi to be included in Stephen Kenny's Ireland squad tomorrow for the friendlies against Belgium and Lithuania, an honour he probably deserves based on recent form. It was also revealed by Jim Crawford this week that the player has turned down the advances of the Irish U21 side to concentrate on a senior call-up.
It remains to be seen if he will be included in that panel, although the striker was taken off towards the end of last night's game with a slight hamstring concern. Obafemi has been outscoring the likes of Aaron Connolly and Troy Parrott this season, both of whom will be included by Kenny tomorrow.
Despite this, the Ireland manager still seems a bit unsure about his immediate international prospects.
Regardless of whether he makes the squad this month or not, it is massively encouraging to see him rediscover his form after a difficult couple of years.
