As the Republic of Ireland continued their long-running struggles in front of goal last night, Martin O'Neill has decided to revisit his plan not to take Michael Obafemi with the squad to Denmark ahead of Monday's final UEFA Nations League tie.
Having initially suggested that while uncertainty surrounds Obafemi's international future O'Neill would not be taking the 18-year-old on the trip, the Republic of Ireland manager last night confirmed that this decision could be revisited in light of recent developments.
Confirming that he would be committing his international future to the Republic of Ireland yesterday afternoon, Martin O'Neill will now bring Michael Obafemi to Denmark where the Southampton man may be in line for his first senior appearance.
"I think he should come to Denmark now he’s made that commitment," O'Neill explained.
"Yeah, we’ll take him and I think he has a chance of performing there. He wanted to make the decision. I spoke to him and he’s very happy.
"I spoke to his agent, who was pretty pleased himself. The call is made. It was really up to him."
After another disappointing night for the Republic of Ireland, last night's 0-0 draw with Northern Ireland will have many fans desperate to witness some signs of positivity.
Although Ireland could be heading to Denmark with their relegation already confirmed, the game will take on some semblance of intrigue should Michael Obafemi find himself included.
