In a surprise decision, Arsenal manager Unai Emery has dropped Mesut Ozil from the Gunners squad to face Tottenham this evening in their Carabao Cup quarter final at the Emirates this evening.
In the build up to the game, Emery deflected the question of whether Ozil wasn't good enough to make the squad, simply stating that 'It's only a tactical decision.'
Emery has sometimes been critical of the German international during his short time at the club, and it is not the first time the Spaniard has failed to start Ozil in the team.
Arsenal's top earner came on in his side's 3-2 defeat to Southampton on Sunday, but failed to make an impact as the Gunners lost for the first time in 22 games.
Players that have been named ahead of Ozil for tonight's game include Joe Willock and Eddie Nketiah who are both named on the bench.
In midfield, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Aaron Ramsey and Alex Iwobi start.
For Spurs Harry Kane only makes the bench, though both teams have picked relatively strong starting XIs.
