Online American retailer World Soccer Shop has released the figures of the best selling jerseys worldwide during 2015, and the top 15 tells us who the most popular players in world football currently are. At least in terms of those who regularly buy jerseys.
Of course, a comparison has to be drawn between Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, but while on the pitch both are different (and excellent) players, it can be interesting to see how their sales figures end up.
This time, much like the 2015 Ballon D'Or, the little genius came out on top, as Barcelona's home jersey with 'MESSI 10' on the back is rather predictably the best selling jersey. By the way, does it not make sense to buy a Messi jersey now, as they will surely be highly sought after in the decades after his retirement. Anyway..

And the list in full:
- Lionel Messi (Barcelona)
- Cristiano Ronaldo (Real Madrid)
- Neymar (Barcelona)
- Eden Hazard (Chelsea)
- Alexis Sanchez (Arsenal)
- Zlatan Ibrahimovic (PSG)
- Steven Gerrard (Liverpool and L.A. Galaxy)
- Harry Kane (Tottenham)
- Wayne Rooney (Manchester United)
- Mesut Ozil (Arsenal)
- Luis Suarez (Barcelona)
- Philippe Coutinho (Liverpool)
- Bastian Schweinsteiger (Bayern Munich and Manchester United)
- Memphis Depay (Manchester United)
- Robert Lewandowski (Bayern Munich)
Eden Hazard as the best selling jersey in the Premier League? A few people may be regretting that decision now.
Of course Manchester United's biggest signings in Bastian Schweinsteiger and Memphis Depay make the cut, as the Manchester United home shirt is the second best selling overall.
Here's that list:
- Barcelona home (Nike)
- Manchester United home (adidas)
- Arsenal home (Puma)
- Bayern Munich home (adidas)
- Manchester United third (adidas)
- Liverpool home (New Balance)
- Chelsea home (adidas)
- Real Madrid home (adidas)
- PSG home (Nike)
- Tottenham home (Under Armour)
That just means United fans didn't really want anyone on the back this year, as their best player is a goalkeeper. Real Madrid all the way down there in 8th?
We'd love to know what the best selling Irish player jersey of all time was. Robbie Keane for Liverpool perhaps? Roy Keane in the years where he played alongside Eric Djemba-Djemba and Liam Miller? Ian Harte at Levante?
Sadly we don't think World Soccer Shop have those figures.
