Memphis Depay arrives at Man United with a reputation as someone who likes to do things his own way. That's not to say there's anything wrong with that. In fact, the Dutch youngster's ability to think outside the box is precisely what makes him such a hot prospect.
However, along with that unpredictability on the field may be a bit of unpredictability off it and Depay is already going against his new club's wishes before he's even joined up with his new teammates. Speaking to De Telegraaf today, Depay has revealed that Man United told him not to play for PSV in their final two Eredivisie games.
As you may have guessed, Depay was having none of it. Despite the fact that PSV agreed with United's stance due to the possibility that injury could strike and leave the £25 million deal up in the air, the 21 year old made sure he was on the field.
I really wanted to play and for our coach (Phillip Cocu)it was not a big issue.
It's certainly a positive thing to see Depay's desire to play two games that essentially meant nothing given PSV's runaway lead in the title race. However, it does indicate that Louis Van Gaal may not have things all his own way when it comes to controlling the 21 year old.
