Perhaps it's the absence or any real tension in the remaining games in the Premier League or perhaps it's the fact that a sizable percentage of football fans care more about who their team might be signing than actual football these days but the first proper rumblings of a lamentable transfer saga between Manchester United and Liverpool kicked off in earnest last night over one Memphis Depay.
The Dutch international - top scorer for Eredivisie winning PSV this season - was widely believed to be 'jetting in' to Manchester this week to discuss terms with United over a summer move but the Mirror broke the story last night that it was in fact a delegation from Liverpool that met the attacker:
Depay's not so secret talks with Liverpool were backed up by Times Sports editor Tony Evans:
The story's been around since Tuesday. United in. Be a bold coup. Not seeing it

While yesterday an agent reportedly involved with Depay tweeted this:

So there you have it, Memphis Depay - a player you've not seen since the World Cup last year may play for Liverpool next season or he may play for Man United.
We'd make a quip here about looking forward to when the transfer silly season finishes but honestly does it ever?
