Commentators everywhere were sweating the correct pronunciation of the surname of new Manchester United signing Memphis Depay, but they need worry no more.
Rather than fumble around the Dutch phonetics of "Deepay", "Deepie", "Depeye", or any other possible combination, the former PSV forward simply wishes to be referred to as "Memphis":
Irrelevant fact of the night: Depay has asked UK commentators to refer to him as 'Memphis' and will carry that name on his shirt #mufc

Not only will he wear Memphis on the back of his jersey at United, but that is how he wants to be known. So you'll hear a lot of "Memphis" coming from the likes of Martin Tyler on Sky, and you should be hearing it in the pub in the following forms:
"That Memphis lad is crap. Sure he can't beat the first man with a cross!" and "That Memphis lad, jaysis he's the next Ronaldo."
Probably from the same person in the same match.
The reason behind this decision is apparently due to an "unhealthy" relationship with his biological father which resulted in him dropping the name "Depay" from the back of his shirt.
So there you have it.
