Real Madrid's financially generous president Florentino Perez has announced that David Moyes wasn't Alex Ferguson's first choice to take the reins at Old Trafford as soon as he stepped down. That honour, Perez insists, belongs to his current employee Carlo Ancelotti.
Perez told reporters that Ferguson approached Ancelotti last year, offering him the chance to take over at Old Trafford, but that Ancelotti opted for Real Madrid instead.
When asked about whether United had gone after Ancelotti, the Real Madrid President told Madrid radio station, Radio Coppe;
I'm absolutely sure they did. Not this year, but last year. Ferguson asked him to succeed him.
