Spurs knew they were taking a risk when they purchased Serge Aurier from PSG as a replacement for Kyle Walker.
The Ivorian had previously been suspended by the French club for making homophobic comments about then manager Laurent Blanc. He was also convicted of assaulting a police officer last year.
Speaking at a press conference ahead of Spurs' game against Everton this weekend, manager Mauricio Pochettino, quoted by Football.London, joked that he would be taking a no-nonsense approach should the 24-year-old step out of line.
I said to him, ‘I'd kill you'. I'd headbutt him.
Pochettino added that he had a long chat with Aurier - no different to any other new player at the club - about what was expected of him.
With Serge Aurier, we were clear, and then if some issues happen in the future, we will see. But I trust in him and he needs to show we can trust, from today.
He’s so powerful. It’s true that a lot of things happened in his career, in the past, but I think it’s important to give the possibility to the player to change, to improve and to learn, it’s so important. His profile is very good for us.
