Shane O'Neill - the son of two-time All-Ireland winner with Cork Colm O'Neill and also the nephew of Kerry legend Maurice Fitzgerald - is reportedly set for a move away from the Colorado Rapids and MLS.

O'Neill was born in Cork, Midleton to be exact, but his family moved to the US when he was young.

The 21-year-old centre-back signed his first professional contract with Colorado in 2012.

Over the weekend, it was rumoured that he would be moving to Cypriot side Apollon Limassol but that it would not be his true destination.

If he does move to Cyprus, only to be shipped on, it would mirror the recent transfer of Canadian international Doneil Henry who moved from Toronto FC to Apollon Limassol late last year and then signed for West Ham in the January transfer window.

O'Neill holds dual US and Irish citizenship and has played for the US at underage level. He was also invited to train with the US senior squad earlier this year.

Balls.ie spoke to Shane back in 2013 about spending summers in Cork and the possibility of playing for Ireland.
