Those who tuned in to TV3's Champions League coverage on Tuesday night would have enjoyed Martin O'Neill joining Kevin Kilbane for some analysis on the cracker of a game that Bayern Munich Vs Atletico Madrid turned out to be.
Kilbane's highlight was without a doubt his calling out of Robert Lewandowski for his Oscar-worthy acting performance, but Martin O'Neill focused his views on the manager that would go on to become the major talking point of the match, Diego Simeone.
In the first half Simeone had a scuffle with Franck Ribery before going on to slap an assistant referee after tossing the ball away to waste time later in the game, but before kick-off O'Neill had given those watching a good explanation as to why he acts the way he does:
Atletico fans see themselves as second class citizens compared to Real Madrid, so by theatrically arguing with every decision that goes against his players he gets the crowd worked into a frenzy that can make a huge difference to the performance of the Atleti players, and also creep into the mind of the referee.
It was on the money from Martin, and it's interesting to hear managers on managers especially when they make their points as well as MON. It's just a shame he won't be doing any analysis for the Euros.
Actually, that is not a shame at all, it's a very good thing, but you know what we mean.
