Leicester made their first step into the Champions League with ease on Wednesday night. After an early scare, Club Brugge were brushed aside.

Prior to the game, on BT Sport, Rio Ferdinand - as many have done so far this season - spoke about the effect N'Golo Kante's absence is going to have on Leicester.

The Leicester midfield need to up their game said Ferdinand in order to provide the defence more protection.

This was where Martin O'Neill jumped in to offer a counterpoint to Ferdinand's analysis. The Ireland manager accused the former Man Utd player of letting centre-backs off lightly.

Analysed like a true centre-half.

You are murdering the midfield players. Centre halves, I love it when a goal is scored, they never worry about closing them down themselves, it is the midfielders to be blamed. No wonder the midfielder has a heart attack at half-time, he's done so much running.

Centre halves, I love it, I really love it. They have an incredible ability to blame someone else for a goal.
