One downer for Martin O'Neill last night was surely learning of Paolo Di Canio's comments saying the new Irish manager wasn't 'very big.'
To be fair Martin started it by calling him a managerial charlatan but Di Canio then threw it back at O'Neill by claiming 'a charlatan is a manager who spends £40 million to be a top 10 club and then sees the club sink into the relegation zone.'
So what did the Irish manager have to say about Di Canio's jibes?
Well when asked last night, he started of by saying it was hardly worth replying to and then went into a pretty detailed response:
'You would have to go and check, but I don't think Sunderland would concur with his £40million for a start. Even Sunderland wouldn't do that.
'Seriously, one of those people he's talking about [Steven Fletcher] actually, his goals helped Sunderland stay in the league, and Mignolet, they got £10million for.'
Paolo we await your retort. However, before jumping the gun, maybe you should consult our guide instead of coming out with such weak put downs as 'he's not very big.'
