We only went and did it.
Needing to beat an unbeaten Wales team, away from home, the Republic of Ireland players selected by Martin O'Neill on the night put in one hell of a shift and came up with a moment of quality to win the game and get the job done.
The Derry influence was stamped all over the win as not only did James McClean smash home the winner, but Shane Duffy was a colossus at the back too and earned himself the Man Of The Match award for his troubles.
While the Brighton defender was clearly our standout performer on the night, McClean has been the M.V.P. of this qualification campaign and he joined his manager for a chat with Tony O'Donoghue after the game, where O'Neill spoke so highly of his player that he made McClean blush.
What a man. O'Neill is right, when he's available, he's one hell of a player!
McClean was booed during the warmup, and throughout the game, so for him to pop up and get the winner - on his weak foot and all - is just so sweet. And we have to agree with Tony O'Donoghue, that is most important Ireland goal he has scored, so far.
COYBIG!
