Dick Redmond, better known as ‘Kitman Dick’ has absolutely embraced his role as the kit manager for the FAI and has on occasion had his own moments in the limelight. This week he was out on the media circuit with Three Ireland and disclosed some of the quirkier bits of dressing room information from fines to superstitions.

One of the most unexpected factoids to surface from the interview was the disclosure of one of Martin O’Neill’s great: pet peeves.

It turns out O’Neill doesn’t like hands in pockets and imposes fines on offending players, the money from which goes towards the Christmas party for the kit staff.

“Martin used to hate people with their hands in their pockets, it’s a fiver fine, and we used to say it goes to the kitman’s Christmas party.’’

“Roy used to be great, he’d say ‘Look Martin, he has in his pockets quick quick quick’, it’s a bit of fun.”

We presume James McCarthy had to fork over a fiver after this indiscretion.

Meanwhile here's a big payout for the kitman do - Doyle, McCarthy plus a €2.50 fine here for Seamus Coleamn.

Redmond also explained the origins of his famous Superman costume and promised he would have plenty more similar gags in the future.

‘’I decided that if we qualify for the Euros I would do a Superman thing, so when the lads were doing the lap of honour I got into the costume and when all the boys came in, everyone was buzzing, the atmosphere was unbelievable, I just came around the corner and the rest is history.’’

‘’People were saying what are you going to do if you qualify for the World Cup, there’ll be plenty more surprises I think coming from this end of the table.’’

Kitman Dick was most recently remembered for wearing a Superman costume and dancing around the dressing room after Ireland qualified for the  Euros and has gained somewhat of a cult following since.
