A contract extension has been agreed, but Martin O'Neill still hasn't officially signed the dotted line to continue working for the FAI.
Whatever is going on, it might cost Ireland because there are reports that Hull City are stepping up their efforts to lure O'Neill away from Dublin.
Despite the fact that caretaker manager Mike Phelan has impressed with limited resources with two wins out of three, the Sun is reporting that O'Neill is high on their shortlist to replace Steve Bruce. The Chinese consortium that are taking over reportedly want a manager with a bigger profile and experience to manage the team.
His assistant manager Roy Keane had been linked to the gig in the summer, but that interest appears to have cooled.
Until that FAI contract is signed, there is always a worry that O'Neill will decide to cash in on the interest that is there while he can. You'd have to wonder why the FAI haven't managed to secure his signature.
