In yesterday's press conference, Irish manager Martin O'Neill was a little more open to questions about his assistant, who hasn't spoken to the media since he was first linked with the assistant manager's role at Aston Villa.
O'Neill was full of praise for Keane, but said 'Do I expect him to blow up one day? Absolutely, yeah, of course. We can deal with all of that, you know?'
Before joking 'If he blows up too often then we’ll bomb him out.'
In all seriousness however, O'Neill did say that he expects Keane to still be his assistant come the start of the Euro 2016 qualifiers, saying 'Very much so, yeah. But that’s always been my view, very much so from the start.'
'I said that from day one — that he was excellent around the players, and he has added little bits here and there.'
This would seem an important development given that Keane is widely expected to be announced as Paul Lambert's assistant at Aston Villa later this week.
