Well, that's the end of that discussion.
Martin O'Neill will be the Republic of Ireland manager through until the end of the Euro 2020 campaign which kicks off following the World Cup next summer.
With both the manager and his assistant Roy Keane having their contracts up after this campaign some had speculated that a poor finish would result in the FAI looking elsewhere, but speaking to FAI TV ahead of the Moldova game O'Neill confirmed that both will be continuing in their roles.

This is something the players wanted, as Stephen Ward revealed during the week they are all very happy with the current setup, but a there will be a number of fans upset by the news as they were disappointed by the tactics and performances against Georgia and Serbia last month.
That said, two wins against Moldova and Wales would go some way to repairing that damage, although the timing of the contract extension is a bit strange, as most would have expected this decision to be made after we know where we finished in the group.
