Liverpool fans have plenty of experience in seeing their challenge for various competitions dissipate limply before their eyes, but rarely have they seen a season unravel quite as quickly as this one. The past week has seen their title challenge falter gravely with defeat to Swansea, followed by elimination from both cups: the EFL Cup semi-final exit to Southampton was followed by today's insipid 2-1 surrender to Wolves.
It is the first time Liverpool have lost three games in a row since 2012, and the first time Jurgen Klopp has lost three games at home since 2007, when he was in charge at Mainz. After the game, Klopp accepted the sole responsibility for the defeat, adding that he learned a lot about his players during the defeat.
This is worrying talk for one Alberto Moreno, who didn't exactly cover himself in glory during the defeat. Liverpool were caught on the break throughout the game, and it was from such a swift counter-attack Wolves scored what proved to be the winner. Here is that goal, with Moreno's flailing attempt at a tackle the standout slapstick from a comic defensive effort.
Moreno felt the full force of Mark Lawrenson's ire throughout the game. Lawro was on commentary duty with BBC 5 Live, and spent much of the game spitting exasperated fury at Liverpool's performance.
Moreno bore the brunt of it. The Spanish left-back was spotted in jovial conversation with Wolves' Helder Costa at half-time, and it ignited Lawrenson.
Moreno has just gone and slapped Costa on the back well done.
What on earth is going on?
You’re getting beaten at home by a Championship team! Get a life!
This Liverpool team is too nice.
Poor Lawro. At least he won't have to experience this much more often. After ten games in a month, Liverpool only have seven games until April.
