Mark Bosnich is a man who no doubt has a few regrets.
A highly talented goalkeeper in his day, the Australian shot stopper saw his career end prematurely after a series of off the field problems saw him left without a club in England, before returning home to play in the A-League where he suffered a career ending injury shortly after signing.
And it all could have been different if he just listened to a young defender by the name of John Terry.
Chelsea are in Australia as part of an end of season World tour, and writing in a column for News Corp about his time at Stamford Bridge, Bosnich revealed a great story about a 21 year old John Terry showing incredible leadership at a young age.
I should have listened to his advice back then. If I had, I would never had got into the troubles that I did. The whole mess ended up curtailing my career.
According to Bosnich the advice he received came after John Terry noticed the crowd that Bosnich had begun to associate himself with after finding himself in London. Terry knew of these people, and he stood up and spoke in front of the entire squad, warning Bosnich to be careful.
Bosnich dismissed the advice, admitting that he felt bullet proof at the time, but it turned out that Terry was spot on. This story paints an image of John Terry as an incredibly confident young man and a very strong leader, which Bosnich continued to confirm:
John’s actions showed amazing foresight and leadership at such a young age, and is the reason so many managers such as Jose Mourinho, Carlo Ancelotti, Fabio Capello and others, have always made him captain.
