With Manchester United down a striker following the departure of Radamel Falcao, they are looking to replace the Colombian. And hopefully, for them, with someone who will score more than four goals next season.
According to The Sun, Louis van Gaal is "closing in" on a move for Atletico Madrid striker Mario Mandzukic. The Croatian, who scored twice against Ireland at Euro 2012, notched 20 goals in all competitions this season.
Mandzukic joined the 2014 La Liga champions from Bayern Munich just last summer for around £18.5m but Diego Simeone's side have been forced to alter their play somewhat in order to accommodate his less mobile style.
Reports suggest that they are interested in both Villareal's Luciano Vietto and Carlos Tevez as possible focal points for their attack next season.
29-year-old Mandzukic won a Champions League with Bayern Munich in 2013 and was linked with a move to Old Trafford last summer.
