Manchester United are simply a shambles at the moment. The new manager bounce from Ruben Amorim has quickly washed away as Manchester United lost their last four games on the bounce ahead of a trip to Anfield on Sunday.
United went into Christmas Day in the lowest position they've been in the Premier League era and fans are beginning to seriously look at the sides below them as the relegation zone is closer to the Red Devils than the European spots.
It's not just on the field where United are under fire as the structure of the club, both literally and figuratively has come under scrutiny over the past month, from an Amorim press conference being disrupted by another leak to INEOS and Sir Jim Ratcliffe's extreme cost-cutting leading to less funding for the Manchester United Foundation and cutting a fund that helps ex-United players in need of financial help.
It's overall been a depressing winter at Old Trafford but among all of this press the one story hanging over them has been the future of Marcus Rashford.
Marcus Rashford Clarifies Future With Manchester United In Instagram Statement
The Manchester native has been a fan-favourite since bursting onto the scene back in 2016, but his form has taken a huge dip over the last 18 months. With just 11 Premier League goals since the start of the 2023/24 season it's clear that Rashford hasn't been performing at the level of a forward supposedly on £350,000 per week.
He's always been a regular in the starting lineup throughout this poor spell but ahead of the Manchester derby in December, Ruben Amorim decided to leave Rashford along with Alejandro Garnacho out of the squad due to their performance levels in training. This led to huge speculation over Rashford's future as for the first time ever it looked like United may be willing to move on from their academy star.
Rashford added fuel to this fire by coming out in an interview and saying he is looking for a new challenge. To the football world a Rashford move away from United looks very likely, but it will be hard for United to shift his big contract on.
However today Rashford took to Instagram where he posted a story that had a screenshot of a recent report from The Sun's Andy Dillon and Martin Blackburn which said that Rashford had meet with an agency ahead of an imminent move away from Old Trafford. Under the screenshot he left a brief statement clarifying his future at Manchester United.
Been a lot of false stories written over the past few weeks, but guys this is getting ridiculous- never met with any agency and don't have any plans to ....
It's somewhat a contradictory statement to his 'new challenge' one he made only weeks ago but whether it's with United or someone else, fans just want to see Rashford visibly enjoying his football again. There's not many players more entertaining to watch when they're on form than Rashford.
