Certainty at Old Trafford that Marcus Rashford is not the next Federico Macheda must be pretty high.
The 18-year-old made his Man Utd debut on Thursday night. He only found out minutes before the kick-off against Midtjylland. He would go on to scored twice in that game as Man Utd came from behind to progress to the next round of the Europa League.
Louis van Gaal was forced into the selection of Rashford due numerous injuries in his squad.
Rashford would again start for Man Utd at the weekend. This time against the more intimidating opponents of Arsenal - though Graeme Souness may argue against that description.
Aided by some truly awful Arsenal defending, Rashford would again score twice, making it four goals in his first two senior appearances for Man Utd.
Even some of the most hardcore Man Utd fans would have struggled to pick Rashford out of a line-up prior to the weekend. They are undoubtedly aware of him now though.
The hierarchy at Man Utd wish to ensure Rashford is a fixture at the club for years to come. Currently, according to reports, the striker is on wages of around £500 to £1,000. It's the former according to The Sun and the latter according to The Telegraph.
The Telegraph also report that Rashford is set for a major pay rise which will come with a new contract offer. He will reportedly be offered a £20,000 a week deal which will keep him at the club until 2020.
