In 2015, Real Madrid spent less than €4million on Marco Asensio. It could be one of the best signings the club has made in recent years.
The 21-year-old scored his third and fourth goals of the season on Sunday night, as Real Madrid came from 2-1 down to draw with Valencia in the Bernabeu.
Loaned out to Espanyol, after joining from Mallorca, Asensio finally forced his way into the team last season. He has started the season with two goals against Barcelona in the Spanish Super Cup, and followed it up with a brace last night.
Last season, he scored ten goals and looks well on course to beat that tally before the new year.
Both goals were scored from outside the box, with his equalising strike coming from a free-kick in the last ten minutes.
Barcelona had the chance to buy Asensio when at Mallorca, but they balked at the €4million valuation.
Could that prove to be a costly error? It looks very likely.
