What neutrals hoped for going into the Champions League final was that it would be competitive and that Barcelona would not open up an unassailable lead early in the game.
Despite Ivan Rakitic's fourth minute goal, it certainly lived up, and more, to that minimum wish.
Barca took a 1-0 lead into half time and then ten minutes into the second half, Alvaro Morata equalised. Space for the attack was opened up beautifully by a Claudio Marchisio backheel pass to Stephan Lichtsteiner in the build up. Carlos Tevez's shot was saved by Marc-Andre ter Stegen but Morata was there to tap in the rebound.
