The David De Gea/fax machine situation that went down on transfer deadline day was a farce that made the final day of the 2015 summer transfer window far more enjoyable.
It makes it even better that in the end, everybody won. Manchester United held on to David De Gea for another season at least, Real Madrid fans got what they wanted in Keylor Navas getting a chance to prove himself as their number one, and Sky Sports were jilted at the alter as their major story didn't come through, much to the delight of those who are sick of 'TRANSFER DEADLINE DAY MANIA XVII'...
Since that fax machine breakdown, things have changed in Madrid. No longer are they obsessed with the toy that another child is playing with in De Gea, and instead they have realised that the Costa Rican goalkeeper between their sticks is actually an elite goalkeeper. This point is hammered home by Marca, Real Madrid's mouthpiece in the media, publishing a story with quotes from a source they trust in what will make every United fan rejoice:
Real Madrid have decided to pull the plug on their plan to bring in David de Gea from Manchester United in the summer. Instead, they will be keeping faith with Keylor Navas, who is set to be offered a bumper new contract in the coming days as a reward for his stunning form this season.
Sources from the Real Madrid board, who preferred to remain anonymous, confirmed these developments to German news agency dpa. "Keylor Navas is a fans' favourite and his performances have been top-drawer. There is no need to search for another goalkeeper, and that includes De Gea", they are quoted as saying.
A massive boost for those who feared it was only a matter of time before David flew off to Madrid to be with his very fussy girlfriend.
Now, the man who has spared Manchester United of a far worse position in the than the already unacceptable place they find them in is free to continue without the clouds of transfer speculation forming over his head.
That five-year contract extension he signed earlier in the season is looking far more substantial now, as will these words on how happy he is in Manchester:
