A teaser for the upcoming feature documentary on the life of Diego Maradona has been released and it looks fascinating, to say the least.
Needless to say, the minute of released footage gives very little away, but it's enough to whet the appetite ahead of the documentary's release. June 14 has already been announced as the date of the film's much anticipated arrival to cinema screens.
The footage in the film, simply entitled Diego Maradona, draws from 500 hours of previously unseen footage, much of which is believed to have come from the World Cup winner's personal archive. The narrative follows the Argentinian's career at Napoli, where he led the side to its first ever league title.
Before hitting cinemas, the biopic of the 58-year-old will premiere at the Cannes Film Festival next month.
The film's director, Asif Kapadia, is already well known in the world of famous sports films, having directed the well regarded Senna, the biopic of the late Formula One legend Ayrton Senna, back in 2010.
Yet, despite his reputation, Kapadia found it difficult to track down the film's protagonist for an interview. Eventually, he managed to pin down the enigma when visiting his home with just a translator.
As it turned out, that interview proved pivotal when securing most contributors to the project, the director claims, "Most people said, If he's not on-board I don't talk to you."
Thankfully, everyone seems to have got on-board and it already promises to be quite the hit.
