Sadiq El Fitouri is a name that very few Manchester United fans will have been familiar with when they woke up this morning, but the 20 year old defender has just signed an 18 month contract with the club, largely down to a recommendation from Paul Scholes and Phil Neville.
El Fitouri was previously a Manchester City youth team player, but he drifted away from the game after he became disheartened with a lack of first team opportunities. He had a spell in non-league football, before beginning a trial with Salford City FC only three weeks ago.
It appears that his performances in training, along with a good display in a friendly between Salford City and Manchester United U21s, was enough for Paul Scholes to recommend him to United. He has signed an 18 month contract and will go into Warren Joyce's U21 squad.
While he may not feature for the first team any time soon, it is still a remarkable story considering one month ago he was playing non-league football, and Gary Neville expressed his happiness with the story on twitter.
Incredible story on @SalfordCityFC on Sadiq El Fitouri. Well done to Phil and Scholesy for showing belief in a lad who was out of the game!

Phil and Scholesy gave him his @SalfordCityFC debut just 3 weeks ago and the boy has signed for United. #dreamscometrue

One to keep an eye on perhaps, as if he ever does feature for the first team it will be a truly remarkable story.
