While Manchester United still don't know who will be their manager next season, it is clear that whoever does get the job will have a sizeable rebuilding task on their hands.

The squad is desperately in need of an overhaul, with a number of first team players performing well below the required level this season.

The defence could certainly with an upgrade. Harry Maguire has had a torrid time at the back, while the likes of Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Luke Shaw have also struggled at times.

It is likely that the club will be in the market for yet another centre back this summer, with reports suggesting that they already have their eye on one La Liga star.

Manchester United interested in Barcelona's Ronald Araujo

Spanish publication SPORT are reporting that Manchester United are interested in signing Barcelona centre back Ronald Araujo this summer.

The 23-year old has less than 18 months remaining on his current deal, with negotiations over a new contract having hit an impasse. That means that the player could be available for a knockdown fee in the months ahead.

A seven-cap Uruguay international, Araujo joined Barcelona from Boston River in his homeland back in 2018. Having initially starred at Barcelona 'B', he has since established him at first team level and has made 31 appearances in all competitions this season.

Xavi will no doubt want to keep the defender, although the club's financial situation means that they will have to consider offers in the off-season or else risk losing him for nothing in 2023. PSG are also said to be monitoring the situation.

This would be a smart bit of business from United, recruiting a high potential youngster for a below market rate fee. It is the sort of deal the club has far too often missed out on in recent years.
