Manchester United have been locked in a battle with Real Madrid over their desire to keep goalkeeper David De Gea at the club, and their desire to bring Sergio Ramos in to bolster their defence, but in the mean time they have shown no mercy in the transfer market as they secured three new signings last week.

Their summer spending is certainly not finished, and Jamie Jackson of The Guardian, who is in Seattle covering United's pre-season tour, is claiming that Manchester United are set to trigger Barcelona winger Pedro's release clause of £22m.

The immediate thought upon reading such news is that surely it means that Angel Di Maria is on the way out of Old Trafford if Louis Van Gaal is bringing in another winger, as Di Maria struggled to settle in to life in England both on and off the pitch.

Pedro would represent an exciting signing for the fans, who will know him well as he scored against Man United in the 2011 Champions League final, but he has been eased out of the starting lineup at Barca in recent seasons and is believed to be frustrated at the lack of first team opportunities at the Camp Nou, which will no doubt be magnified by the signing of Adra Turan.

We'll bring you more on this in the coming days.
