It all started so promisingly. Manchester United opened the season with a 4-0 win over Chelsea at Old Trafford and things looked rosy again for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Since then, it's been six points in six games, and United sit tenth in the table, and already twelve points behind Liverpool.
After their 1-1 draw with Arsenal at home last night, the stat that this was their worst league start in 30 years was spread far and wide.
9 - Manchester United's haul of nine points from their opening seven league games is their lowest at this stage of a top-flight campaign since 1989-90 (7). Flat. #MUNARS

The 1989-90 season was a pivotal one for Manchester United. They finished a miserable 13th in the league, just five points clear of relegation. Alex Ferguson looked on the verge of the sack, but for a FA Cup run that saved his job. That Cup win turned into European success the following year, a title run the year after, and a first title in 26 years the next. The rest is history.
Ironically, 1989/90 was also the last time Liverpool won the league title.
Can you remember the United team of that season, or if you're too young, have you read enough books about the Ferguson era to know all about this crucial season?
In all 21 players made league starts for United that year. While there were a few more in the squad, we've kept it to this 21 for this quiz. You have eight minutes. This is not easy!
