Manchester United are on the verge of signing a world record kit deal as a bidding war has developed between Nike, Adidas, Puma, and Warrior.
Despite recent difficulties, Manchester United are still clearly a very attractive prospect, and according to the Times it will be comfortably the biggest kit deal in football history. Yesterday, Arsenal signed an extremely lucrative deal with Puma worth £30 million a year. United's deal is anticipated to be more than double that.
Nike remain the favourites to renew their contract with Adidas their main challengers. The current deal is worth £23.5 million a year. Nike are also due to renew their deal with Barcelona and are obliged to match any deal they reach with the Spanish champions.
Adidas are hoping to sneak in and last Monday, they pitched a deal to United's commercial director.
This adds to a strangely buoyant week for United since their mood (perhaps) bottomed out last week after their penalty shootout defeat to Sunderland.
