Former Manchester United defender, Laurent Blanc, is reported to be the "front-runner" to temporarily replace Jose Mourinho as manager of the club.

Man Utd this morning announced that Mourinho has left Old Trafford, adding that a caretaker manager will be appointed until the end of the season.

That appointment expected to be made within the next 48 hours. United play Cardiff in the Premier League on Saturday evening.

The Daily Mail reports that Blanc is the leading candidate to take temporary charge of the club.

The former France international, who spent two seasons at the club between 2001 and 2003, playing 75 games, is said to be good friends with Alex Ferguson.

Blanc has been out of work for the past two years after leaving as PSG boss in the summer of 2016.
