Manchester United will be looking to upgrade a number of positions this summer. Erik ten Hag is likely to be on the lookout for a defender, central midfielder, and striker in the weeks ahead.
It is believed that they are leading the race to sign Ajax Jurrien Timber, who can fill in at either centre back at right back. The club have also been credited with an interest in Benfica's Darwin Nunez, although Liverpool are the current favourites to sign the Benfica forward.
When it comes to midfield upgrades, a number of names have been linked. Declan Rice has long been monitored by United, although his potential fee may be out of reach for them this summer. Christian Eriksen has also been suggested as an option in recent days with the Danish international available on a free transfer.
However, they could also be considering a much more controversial move.
Manchester United considering Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain move?
According to Alex Crooks on talkSPORT, Manchester United are considering making a move for Liverpool midfielder Alex-Oxlade Chamberlain.
The Englishman is set to leave Anfield this summer, with Jurgen Klopp's side rumoured to be seeking a fee of around £10million for the player. The likes of West Ham and Southampton have been suggested as possible destinations in recent times, although the report suggests Erik ten Hag's side would also be 'seriously interested' at that price.
It would certainly be an odd move from United, eyeing a player who has had his injury issues and was a bit-part squad member at best over the last couple of seasons. That is without even mentioning the rivalry between the two clubs.
The last player to move directly between Manchester United and Liverpool came back in 1964, when Phil Chisnall swapped Old Trafford for Merseyside. Since then, the likes of Paul Ince and Michael Owen have played for both clubs although none have transferred directly between the sides.
You'd imagine that Liverpool would knock back any bids from their rivals.
As well as that, signing a player who could not get a game at one of the top teams in the division does not seem like the way to close the gap on their Premier League rivals.
This one seems like a non-starter.
