Manager of non-league club Larkhall Athletic awoke from an induced coma upon hearing of his club's 4-3 victory over Bridgeport in their first game of the new season.

Wayne Thorne, who has been manager of the Larks for the past year, suffered multiple injuries in a car crash a couple of weeks ago. He had torn the main artery in his heart, had shattered 16 ribs, which had punctured his lung, had broken his sternum, dislocated and shattered his hip and pelvis and had a fracture below his left knee.

Thorpe, also a former Larkhall player, had been in a coma for a week but once his brother had informed him of his club's victory he opened his eyes for the first time. Since then Larkhall have gone on to win their second game of the season 4-0.
