After two superb recent performances against Southampton and Arsenal, Louis van Gaal wants to lock David de Gea down as Manchester United's long-term number one.
According to Neil Custis of The Sun, the club will offer the Spaniard a bumper £36.4m five-year-deal worth £140,000 a week. He has a year and a half left on his current contract.
The new contract would mean a pay rise of £80,000 per week, making the 24-year-old "the richest goalkeeper in history" say The Sun.
Custis also says that it is hoped the offer will repel interest from Real Madrid, who would like to see De Gea replace Iker Casillas.
