Much has been made about how much money both Brendan Rodgers and Louis van Gaal have spent in their times in charge of their teams.
Neither have been at their clubs long, with van Gaal entering his second season, and Rodgers has been their for three years. Both have spent extraordinary amounts of money bringing in players like Memphis Depay, Nathaniel Clyne, Morgan Schneiderlein, and Christian Benteke.
Looking back at both teams from just 2013 - the last time Sir Alex Ferguson played against Liverpool reads for some stark reading:
On the face of it, they are two very talented teams. But there is only six players from the 22 who started that game.
The likes of Shinji Kagawa, Andre Wisdom, Danny Welbeck, and Glen Johnson have been long gone; while others still mourn the departures of Robin van Persire, Luis Suarez, Nemanja Vidic, and Steven Gerrard.
It illustrates the huge turnover in both teams, especially when you consider that Angel di Maria both arrived and left since this game just two years ago.
